Abstract
This study aims to examine the effects of professionalism and work ethics on the performance of Halal Product Process (PPH) Assistants, with job satisfaction serving as an intervening variable, in the Banyumas Residency, Central Java, Indonesia. The study was motivated by the strategic role of PPH Assistants in supporting the acceleration of the national halal certification program through the Free Halal Certification (SEHATI) initiative. Therefore, improving professionalism, work ethics, and job satisfaction is essential to enhancing their performance. This research employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. The study population consisted of 2,057 PPH Assistants, from which 100 respondents were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected through an online questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The findings indicate that work ethics have a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction (β=0.236; p=0.020) and PPH Assistants' performance (β=0.308; p=0.005). Professionalism has a positive and significant effect on performance (β=0.404; p=0.001) but does not significantly affect job satisfaction (β=0.138; p=0.186). The structural model demonstrates strong explanatory power, with an R² value of 0.772 for performance and 0.459 for job satisfaction. These findings suggest that improving the performance of PPH Assistants can be achieved primarily by strengthening professionalism and work ethics, while job satisfaction is influenced more substantially by work ethics.
